The “Robusta Lionata” is a breed of broiler chickens developed in 1965 at the Rovigo Pollicoltura Experimental Station. During the selection process, the Orpington and white Ameraucana breeds were used. It is not a breed recognized by the Italian Federation of Poultry Associations, therefore it lacks the standards of this body and is not counted among the standardized breeds. Robusta Lionata Features The breed closely resembles Buff Orpington, except that it has yellow skin and legs, which are traditionally preferred by Italian chicken meat-eaters. It is a large breed, with a simple 5 to 6-point crest. The average weight is 3.8–4.2 kg (8.4–9.3 lb) for roosters and 2.8–3.0 kg (6.2–6.6 lb) for hens.
